Who owns Notion?
Notion is private and independent: no acquirer, and no shares listed on any exchange as of October 2026. Ivan Zhao is its largest individual owner, with at least 30% of the company by Forbes’ April 2024 estimate (Forbes). The rest belongs to co-founders Simon Last and Akshay Kothari, current and former employees, and investors.
Investor | Role in Notion’s funding |
|---|---|
Sequoia Capital | Co-led the Oct 2021 round; bought employee shares in 2022 and 2026; co-head Pat Grady sits on the board |
Index Ventures | Led the Apr 2020 round; bought employee shares in 2022 and 2026 |
Coatue | Co-led the Oct 2021 round |

Notion hasn’t raised new money since October 2021. Instead it has twice let employees sell shares to investors: in July 2022 at a $10 billion valuation (Notion), and in January 2026, when GIC, Sequoia and Index bought about $270 million of shares at an $11 billion valuation (Notion).
Notion hasn’t filed publicly for an IPO. Forbes reported in December 2025 that it could consider one as early as the end of 2026 (BRIDGE, citing Forbes). On June 8, 2026, it named its first board of directors, five outside members including Sequoia’s Pat Grady and former VMware CFO Jonathan Chadwick (Notion).
What is Notion’s revenue?
Notion has published one revenue figure: more than $500 million in annualized revenue in September 2025 (CNBC). Every other point on the chart is an outside estimate. Forbes put 2023 revenue at about $250 million (Forbes) and reported more than $600 million in annual recurring revenue in December 2025 (BRIDGE, citing Forbes). Sacra estimates $865 million in July 2026, up from $610 million at the end of 2025 (Sacra).
AI drives the growth: at the end of 2025, more than half of Notion’s annual recurring revenue came from customers using its AI features, a share that more than doubled in a year (Notion).
The early figures come from Latka (Latka) and SaaStr (SaaStr), and they disagree. For April 2020, Latka says $13.3 million while Multiples.vc puts annual recurring revenue at $30 million (Multiples.vc). For 2022, SaaStr says $67 million and Latka $43.5 million. For 2024, Latka gives $300 million at mid-year and SaaStr $400 million for the full year. No source publishes a 2018 figure; Forbes reports that Notion was profitable within weeks of its August 2016 launch and still profitable in 2023.
How much did Notion raise? Funding and valuation
Notion has raised about $330 million, and in September 2025 co-founder Akshay Kothari said it held more cash than that (CNBC). Its last priced round, in October 2021, valued it at $10 billion; the January 2026 employee share sale set a higher mark of $11 billion.
Round | Date | Amount | Valuation | Lead investors |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Jan 26, 2026 | About $270M | $11B | GIC, Sequoia, Index | |
Jul 29, 2022 | Not disclosed | $10B | Sequoia, Index | |
Oct 8, 2021 | $275M | $10B | Coatue, Sequoia | |
Apr 1, 2020 | $50M | $2B | Index Ventures | |
Jul 2019 | $10M | $800M | Angels including Daniel Gross, Elad Gil and Josh Kopelman | |
2013 | $2M | Not disclosed | Largest check from Josh Kopelman (First Round Capital) |
Why totals differ online: sources put the total between $327 million and $344 million. Notion’s SEC filings for 2019 to 2021 add up to about $327 million, and the July 2019 filing shows $18.2 million sold, more than the $10 million reported at the time. Employee share sales don’t count toward the total, because Notion sells no new shares in them.
Who is the CEO of Notion?
Ivan Zhao is Notion’s co-founder and CEO. He started the company in 2013 with Simon Last, and in 2015 the two laid off their team and rebuilt the product in Kyoto, Japan. Forbes estimates his net worth at $1.7 billion (Oct 29, 2026) (Forbes).
Person | Role | Since |
|---|---|---|
Ivan Zhao | Co-founder, CEO | 2013 |

Rama Katkar | Chief Financial Officer | Oct 2022 |
Erica Anderson | Chief Revenue Officer | Mar 2023 |

Where is Notion headquartered, and how many employees does it have?
Notion is headquartered in San Francisco. Its 2021 SEC filing lists 2300 Harrison Street (SEC), while its current privacy policy gives 685 Market Street as its mailing address (Notion). It also hires in New York, Dublin, Seoul, Hyderabad, Tokyo and Sydney (Notion jobs).
Notion had about 1,000 employees in September 2025, and about 90% of its business came from teams rather than individuals (CNBC). It passed 100 million users in August 2024 (Notion), and users had built more than 1 million custom AI agents by May 2026 (TechCrunch).
What is Notion’s email format?
Notion employees mostly use {first}@makenotion.com (about 64% of known addresses), according to LeadIQ; the rest use {f}{last} (23%), {first}.{last} (9%) or {last} (4%) on the same domain (LeadIQ). Staff mailboxes run on makenotion.com, not on the notion.com website domain.
Need | Official address |
|---|---|
Account and product support | team@makenotion.com |
Privacy requests | privacy@makenotion.com |
Security vulnerabilities | security@makenotion.com (bug bounty on HackerOne) |
Abuse and account integrity | abuse@makenotion.com |
Press and media | press@notion.com |
Notion owns notion.com but uses it for its website and marketing email. The domain’s mail servers are a registrar default rather than Notion’s Google Workspace (checked Oct 29, 2026), so a guessed first@notion.com address is unlikely to reach an employee. Notion also owns notion.ai, which redirects to its AI product page and is set up to send no email at all.
