How the domain name generator works
Type a product name, or paste a domain or a URL: the generator takes the name out of it, so reply.io becomes reply. It tries that name on its own and with 55 prefixes (get-, try-, join-…) and 34 suffixes (-hq, -app, -labs…), on 39 extensions. That's about 4,095 domain ideas for one name. Only want a .io? Search the extensions menu for it, and every idea is on .io: 105 of them for “leadwave”, starting with leadwave.io, whitelabelleadwave.io, goleadwave.io, askleadwave.io.
The order comes from LeadWave's database of 28,995 SaaS and AI companies (October 2026): a prefix more companies use, or an extension more of them registered, comes earlier. The exact name on .com, .io and .ai always comes first, because that's what you want to know about first. Country extensions like .de or .co.uk are left out of the mix, since they point to one market rather than a product; if you sell in one country, search the menu for yours. For “leadwave”, the first ideas are leadwave.com, leadwave.io, leadwave.ai, theleadwave.com, useleadwave.com, helloleadwave.com.
Is the domain available?
Each idea gets a quick check as it appears. Your browser asks Cloudflare's public DNS resolver for the domain's name servers. A registered domain almost always has them, so a domain with no DNS records at all shows as Looks free, and one with records as Taken.
A domain can be registered without DNS, for example one that expired and is waiting to be deleted. For .com and .net, a free-looking domain is therefore also checked with the registry, Verisign, which knows every registration. For other extensions the check stays a hint, and premium or reserved names can look free too. Check opens the domain at a registrar with its real status and price, or you can look it up in ICANN's registration data lookup.
How SaaS companies choose their domain
We compared each company's name with its website, for 28,991 companies. 77% use their exact name. 650 (2%) add a word in front of it and 363 (1%) after it; the rest use a different name or an abbreviation for their domain.
The most used prefixes:
| Prefix | Companies | For example |
|---|---|---|
| get- | 239 | getguru.com, getcensus.com, getlago.com |
| go- | 75 | gopigment.com, gosolo.io, goprimer.com |
| use- | 64 | usemotion.com, usepylon.com, usebubbles.com |
| the- | 52 | thehumanoid.ai, thebricks.com, thecommons.earth |
| try- | 50 | tryprofound.com, trydatabook.com, trymaverick.com |
| join- | 43 | joinposter.com, joinploy.com, joinkudos.com |
| with- | 29 | withorb.com, withblaze.app, withdaydream.com |
| hello- | 22 | helloalleva.com, helloalma.com, helloaria.eu |
And the most used suffixes:
| Suffix | Companies | For example |
|---|---|---|
| -app | 161 | tropicapp.io, dovetailapp.com, motionapp.com |
| -hq | 99 | ziphq.com, halterhq.com, tealhq.com |
| -labs | 29 | sanalabs.com, lumalabs.ai, v7labs.com |
| -ai | 21 | generalistai.com, roadwayai.com, cassidyai.com |
| -now | 15 | spikenow.com, blendnow.com, spurnow.com |
| -cloud | 13 | duettocloud.com, embracecloud.nl, ensightcloud.com |
| -iq | 5 | aspireiq.com, backboneiq.com, cloudiq.com |
| -connect | 4 | aspiraconnect.com, elumenconnect.com, graphiteconnect.com |
get- is the clear favourite: it reads as a call to action and keeps the name intact. -app and -hq do the same job from the other end. Hyphens and digits are rare: 3% of these domains have a hyphen and 2% a digit.
Which domain extensions SaaS companies use
The extensions of the 15,188 companies in our database we have one for:
| Extension | Companies | Share |
|---|---|---|
| .com | 11,087 | 73% |
| .io | 1,463 | 10% |
| .ai | 730 | 5% |
| .co | 552 | 4% |
| .net | 196 | 1% |
| .app | 103 | 1% |
| .com.br | 99 | 1% |
| .co.uk | 94 | 1% |
| .de | 89 | 1% |
| .in | 70 | 0% |
A .com is still the default, and the one buyers type without thinking. .io is common for developer and B2B tools, and .ai for AI products. The country extensions in the list mostly belong to companies that sell in that one country.
Tips for choosing a SaaS domain
Try the exact name first, on .com, then on .io or .ai.
If it's taken, add one short word rather than a hyphen or a number: get-, try-, use- and join- in front, or -hq and -app after. This site is getleadwave.io.
Say it out loud. One added word is easy to dictate on a call; two (getleadwavehq) start to blur.
Check trademarks and handles before you buy, for example in the USPTO trademark search and EUIPO eSearch, and on LinkedIn, X and GitHub.
