How the SaaS name generator works
The generator joins your word to the word parts SaaS companies build their names from: endings like -ly (Grammarly, Calendly) and -flow (Webflow), and beginnings like Smart- (SmartHR) and Work- (Workato). We tagged those parts in 3,820 names from LeadWave's database of 28,995 SaaS and AI companies (October 2026) and counted whether each one starts or ends the name. That gives 116 word parts to build with.
Position matters. -hub ends 65 of those names and starts only 15, so the generator puts it at the end. A word part is used in a position only when at least three companies, and at least a fifth of its uses, put it there. The most common patterns come first, and each refresh goes further into the long tail: "lead" alone gives 182 names, starting with Leadata, Leadify, Airlead.
Two letter tricks go into each batch while they last: Get-, Try- or Use- in front (GetLead), -io, -o or -a at the end (Leadio), and a dropped vowel (Tracker becomes Trackr). Words are joined the way brands join them: a letter shared at the seam is written once (Cloud and Desk make Cloudesk), and -fy becomes -ify after a consonant, as in Shopify.
The most common endings in SaaS names
How many of the tagged companies end their name with each word part:
| Ending | Companies | For example |
|---|---|---|
| -ly | 171 | Grammarly, LaunchDarkly, Calendly |
| -fy | 125 | Pipefy, Corefy, Swiftify |
| -cloud | 92 | MegazoneCloud, ABM Cloud, shipcloud |
| -labs | 80 | Orion Labs, People Data Labs, 4Sight Labs |
| -box | 68 | Dropbox, RIA IN A BOX, Pibox |
| -data | 66 | Medidata, YipitData, HeyData |
| -hub | 65 | BHub, CallHub, CheckHub |
| -flow | 59 | Webflow, Bannerflow, Akiflow |
| -IQ | 54 | accountsIQ, ActionIQ, Agent IQ |
| -desk | 46 | Demodesk, Nectar Desk, MessageDesk |
Endings like -ly and -fy turn almost any word into a product name, which is why they lead. Endings that are nouns, like -box, -hub and -desk, say where the work happens.
The most common beginnings
And how many start their name with each:
| Beginning | Companies | For example |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud- | 92 | Cloudera, CloudBees, Cloud Works |
| Data- | 71 | Databook, DataClover, Databar.ai |
| Smart- | 70 | SmartHR, SmartDocs, SmartSuite |
| Work- | 65 | Workato, WorkOS, Workona |
| Sales- | 51 | SalesLoft, Sales & Orders, SalesDrive |
| One- | 42 | OneSchema, One Click Life, One Concern |
| Open- | 42 | Open Pricer, Open Assessment Technologies, Open CRM |
| Lead- | 40 | Lead Assign, Lead Forensics, LEAD.app |
| Ship- | 39 | shipcloud, ShipJunction, Ship4wd |
| Team- | 39 | teamtown, Teamflow, Teamland |
Beginnings tend to name the domain or the promise: Cloud-, Data-, Sales-, Smart-. They make the category clear at a glance, so your own word can be more abstract.
Which domain extensions SaaS companies use
The extensions of the 15,188 companies in our database we have one for:
| Extension | Companies | Share |
|---|---|---|
| .com | 11,087 | 73% |
| .io | 1,463 | 10% |
| .ai | 730 | 5% |
| .co | 552 | 4% |
| .net | 196 | 1% |
| .app | 103 | 1% |
A .com is still the default, and the one buyers type without thinking. .io is common for developer and B2B tools, and .ai for AI products. When the .com of your name is taken, a short prefix often fixes it: this site is getleadwave.io. The SaaS domain name generator tries those prefixes and extensions for any name and checks which look free.
How to pick a SaaS name
Keep it short. The median company name in our database has 8 letters; half of them have between 6 and 10.
Say it on a call. If someone hears the name once, can they spell it and find you? Dropped vowels and invented spellings cost you here.
Don't describe the product too narrowly. A name tied to one feature gets awkward when the product grows.
Check the domain early: the .com first, then .io or .ai.
Search trademarks in the markets you sell in, for example in the USPTO trademark search (US) and EUIPO eSearch (EU).
Check the handles you need on LinkedIn, X and GitHub.
