Why look for a European alternative to DocuSign?

DocuSign is headquartered in San Francisco, United States. These are the reasons buyers in Europe most often give for looking elsewhere:

  • DocuSign is a US company, so US law such as the CLOUD Act can reach customer data, even data stored in Europe.
  • To be fair, DocuSign runs data centres in three EU countries and is itself a qualified trust service provider in Europe.
  • Paid plans cap sending: Standard is $30 per user a month billed annually and allows 100 envelopes per user a year.
  • Several European tools include qualified signatures or national eIDs in mid-tier plans, which DocuSign sells as extras.

How this list was made

A company counts as European if it's headquartered in Europe: the EU, the EEA, Switzerland, the UK, or elsewhere in geographic Europe, never Russia or Belarus. Headquarters means where it's run from, not a registered office. Companies founded in Europe but headquartered elsewhere today are listed separately, and a non-European owner is always named.

Each company was checked against its own legal notice, pricing page and data-processing terms, and its G2 page. Headcount, funding and founding year come from LeadWave's database of SaaS companies. No company paid to be listed or ranked.
