Canva Pty Ltd (ABN 80 158 929 938) was registered in Sydney in June 2012 (ABN Lookup). In 2025 Canva set up a US parent company, which it said prepares it “for a future IPO” (Startup Daily). US customers contract with Canva US, Inc. in Austin, Texas (Canva). In 2026 four Canva companies paid A$792,000 in infringement notices to Australia’s corporate regulator for filing their 2024 accounts late (ASIC).

Canva layoffs: 1,271 roles affected (November 2026)

On November 4, 2026 (Sydney time; the evening of November 3 in the US), CEO Melanie Perkins told staff that Canva would make “significant changes to how we’re organised, where some of our teams are based, and the roles and skills we need for the future”. “This means 1,271 people, or 22% of Canva, will be impacted,” she wrote (Canva). For some that means a new role or a move; others are leaving. Canva hasn’t said how many lose their jobs, so headlines that 1,200 were laid off overstate it.

Her reason: “This has been our hardest year yet, and as we shared earlier this year, our growth has slowed for the first time in a decade.” Small changes wouldn’t be enough, she wrote; “we need to refound Canva, getting back to our roots of small, empowered teams” (Canva). The memo doesn’t mention AI. In August Canva had cut its 2026 revenue growth forecast by a third, to 20%, after its AI features cost more to run than expected (Fortune).

It is Canva’s largest restructure. Earlier cuts were small: 10 of its 12 technical writers in March 2025 (Information Age) and 32 finance roles in January 2026 (Capital Brief). The news was covered by the ABC (ABC), TechCrunch (TechCrunch) and Startup Daily (Startup Daily).

In 2021 Perkins and Obrecht pledged “the vast majority of our equity (30% of Canva)” to charity through the Canva Foundation (Medium) (Canva). The rest belongs to employees and investors: Blackbird, AirTree, Felicis, Sequoia, Bond, General Catalyst, Bessemer, T. Rowe Price, Franklin Templeton, Dragoneer, Fidelity and others.

What is Canva’s revenue?

Canva ended 2025 with over $4 billion in annualized revenue, up 36% (TechCrunch) (Canva), and has been profitable for nine years, Cliff Obrecht said in April 2026 (Capital Brief). Growth is slowing: revenue in the June 2026 quarter was US$921.9 million, up 25.2%, and Canva expects 20% growth for 2026, down from 30% (SmartCompany).

By our sum of the rounds above, Canva has raised at least $500 million from investors; it publishes no total. TechCrunch calls the April 2021 deal a secondary sale rather than a raise (TechCrunch).

Investors have marked Canva down in 2026. T. Rowe Price valued its stake at an implied $30.4 billion as of August 31 (Forbes Australia), Blackbird and AirTree cut their marks 17% to $34.9 billion, and Canva’s own valuation for employee shares fell to $31 billion (Capital Brief). There is no IPO filing yet. “From all metric accounts, we are fully IPO ready,” Obrecht said in April; “I assume it will be next year” (Capital Brief).

What does Canva make? Products and acquisitions

Canva started as a simple online design tool and now sells a suite for work: Docs, Presentations, Whiteboards, Websites and Sheets, the Magic Studio AI tools and Canva AI 2.0, an AI assistant that designs from a prompt, launched in April 2026 (Canva). In October 2026 it released Canva Craft, its first in-house image model (Canva). It also made Affinity, the professional design suite it bought in 2024, free for everyone in October 2025 (Canva).
