Oura started in Finland as JouZen Oy in April 2013 and was renamed Oura Health Oy in 2017 (Finnish trade register). On March 31, 2026, a new Delaware company, Oura Inc., became the parent, with Oura Health Oy as its subsidiary (SEC). Oura describes itself as “headquartered in San Francisco with E.U. headquarters in Oulu, Finland” (SEC).

Oura’s IPO: filed, then postponed

Oura filed publicly to list on Nasdaq under the ticker OURA on September 3, 2026 (SEC). It set out to sell 50 million shares at $40 to $44, 13.5 million of them new and 36.5 million from existing holders, with Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and J.P. Morgan leading (SEC). Most of Oura’s own proceeds would have paid employee taxes on stock units that vest at listing.

On September 29 it postponed the offering, citing “uncertainty in the IPO market”. CEO Tom Hale: “We aim to deliver an extraordinary IPO for our employees and investors and we have the luxury of choosing our moment” (CNBC) (TechCrunch). No new date has been set.

Who owns Oura?

Oura is still private. Its filing lists its largest shareholders as Fidelity (10.9%), Forerunner Ventures (9.3%), Bedford Ridge (9.2%) and Lifeline Ventures (7.3%), an early Finnish backer (SEC). Dexcom, the glucose-monitor maker, invested $75 million in 2024 (Dexcom), and Eli Lilly $50 million in 2026 (Oura). CEO Tom Hale owns about 1.2% (SEC).

What is Oura’s revenue?

Oura’s IPO filing shows sales more than doubling in fiscal 2025, to $907.9 million, and $1.21 billion in the nine months to June 30, 2026, up 74%, with a 55% gross margin (SEC). In November 2025 Hale said 2026 sales would be “north, maybe close to $2 billion” (CNBC). Its fiscal year ends on September 30.

Members pay $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year on top of the ring. Oura sold 2.3 million rings in fiscal 2025 and 3.1 million in the following nine months, ending June with 5 million paying members (SEC); it passed 6 million in October 2026 (Oura).

Oura ARR (annual recurring revenue)

Oura doesn’t report ARR: most of its revenue comes from selling rings, with a membership on top. Its revenue was $1.21 billion in the nine months to June 30, 2026 (SEC).

Oura MRR (monthly recurring revenue)

Oura doesn’t report MRR. It had more than 6 million paying members in October 2026 (Oura); at $5.99 a month that would be up to about $36 million a month of membership revenue, by our rough calculation, less for members on annual plans.

What does Oura make? Products and acquisitions

Oura makes the Oura Ring, which tracks sleep, heart rate, temperature and activity, and an app that turns the readings into health insights, including Oura Advisor, an AI assistant (Oura). The third-generation ring introduced the paid membership in October 2021 (Business Wire). Hale calls Oura “a health intelligence platform” rather than a ring company (SEC).

Patents, the Pentagon and privacy

Oura defends its ring patents hard. In August 2025 the US International Trade Commission found that Ultrahuman and RingConn infringed one of them (Federal Register) (Oura); in October 2026 Oura sued Ultrahuman again over a redesigned ring (Engadget). Samsung, which makes the Galaxy Ring, filed its own complaint against Oura in December 2025 (IP fray).

In August 2025 Oura called the US Department of Defense its largest enterprise customer (Business Wire). A mention of Palantir in that announcement set off a privacy backlash, and Hale answered: “We will never sell your data to anyone, ever” (Fortune).

Who is the CEO of Oura?

Tom Hale has been Oura’s CEO since spring 2022 (SEC). He was previously President of SurveyMonkey, COO of HomeAway and Chief Product Officer of Linden Lab, maker of Second Life. He succeeded Harpreet Rai, CEO from 2018 to 2021 (Oura); the founding CEO was Petteri Lahtela (Oura).
