From Second Life to the Oura Ring
Hale grew up in Reno, Nevada, a keen cyclist who logged his rides by hand, he told a 2024 audience (Rent Responsibly). After Harvard he spent his career in software: at Macromedia and Adobe, then running products at Linden Lab and HomeAway, the vacation-rental site, and finally as President of SurveyMonkey (SEC).
He came to Oura as a customer. “I came to the product in the fall of 2021,” he said in 2026; by the spring of 2022 he was CEO (SEC). Since then sales have grown from $406.8 million in fiscal 2024 to $1.21 billion in the first nine months of fiscal 2026, and Oura has moved its parent company from Finland to the US (SEC). In 2022 he had said: “I don’t think we’re building this company to IPO” (TechCrunch). Four years later he filed for one, then postponed it.
