European Ecommerce Platforms: 13 Best EU Alternatives (2026)

Ecommerce platforms run an online store: product catalogue, checkout, orders and payments, either as hosted software or as code you host yourself. European merchants often want a vendor run from Europe, or an open-source system they can host wherever they choose. The strongest European options are Shopware (Germany) for mid-size brands wanting open source with paid support, PrestaShop (France) for small merchants who want a free, self-hosted store and commercetools (Germany) for enterprises building custom headless storefronts.

How this list was made

A company counts as European if it's headquartered in Europe: the EU, the EEA, Switzerland, the UK, or elsewhere in geographic Europe, never Russia or Belarus. Headquarters means where it's run from, not a registered office. Companies founded in Europe but headquartered elsewhere today are listed separately, and a non-European owner is always named.

Each company was checked against its own legal notice, pricing page and data-processing terms, and its G2 page. The order weighs how fully each one replaces the US leaders, its track record and its ratings. No company paid to be listed or ranked.
